POST-PANDEMIC INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL AND CORPORATE PROJECT

This project is a renovation project for Columbia College Chicago's 9th floor on the 623 South Wabash Avenue building. We were challenged to build a whole new environment for Columbia students and staff to enjoy their work and study environment in a different experience than ever before. The project included spaces such as a full-time faculty office; part-time faculty office; grad student space; socialization space; classrooms; student worker space; and other support spaces. The design was made to attend to everyone’s needs and desires without any type of discrimination. As well as provide a unique student life experience.

For my design concept, I chose freedom. I want, not only the students but also the faculty to feel free to express themselves, talk to each other, create new things, think out of the box, and become whom they want to be. The feeling of freedom also comes along with the feeling of happiness, the feeling that everything is possible and that you can do anything and everything. And that is the feeling I want to transmit with my design. I want it to be a place of creativity, where students can work hands-on and let their ideas take control; have the freedom not only to create but also to take risks without the fear of failing. And if they do fail, they have the freedom to start again until they reach their goals.

ELECTRIC PLAN

REFLECTED CEILING PLAN

Classroom II and IV are spaces that can be used for classes, presentations, or even conferences. It encourages the interaction between students as well as students with their professors, once all the desks are facing each other.

Classroom III offers a very unique layout for students and instructors to work and collaborate with each other.

Classroom offers a dynamic layout to enhance the relationship between students and encourages group work.

Students are welcome to sit, study, and have a chance to socialize with each other as well as their professors.

The socialization space is very flexible. All the furniture is movable, so different layouts can be created depending on the intended use of the space.
